Week 9 (admin)

Reading
Christopher Frayling, on Craftsmanship, towards a new Bauhaus. This is an interesting account of traditional making and implementation, there are many useful references referring to definitions of traditional crafts and how making has evolved.
Jaron Lanier, You are not a gadget. an interesting adaptation of where open design has come from, more talking of digital culture, interesting but more relevant to someone that is looking into the development of the web and its applications.
starting to read Matthew Crawford, the case for working with your hands... will let you know.

Doing
big doing week on research days within Brunel, these are interesting and warn of various pitfalls of PhD land and other research areas. There were funding workshops, structuring workshops, IP workshops... Interesting but I have a feeling that I am going to be filling in allot of ethical approval forms in my PhD to engage with the public.

Talking
good chat with http://www.100open.com/ they are looking at really exciting opensource applications across all fields.
